  1. Reblogged this on Scotties Toy Box and commented:
A great and grand post by Professor Taboo. I personally think the professor is a national treasure. I admit that the level the posts are written on can be challenging at times for those with less education and a few times I have been stuck tighter than ring on a swollen finger. However I have found the Professor is also willing to guide a person through any spots where the climb seems too steep. I personally have gained a lot from reading the Professor’s posts and even more from the Professor’s comments on different blogs and topics. IF you like to learn, like to understand, and read about things others may not want to wade into, give Professor Taboo’s work a look over. Hugs

  2. For example, how many parents have found yourself in the discussion (or defense) of what can and cannot be watched on television and why?

More often than you can imagine.
The things they won’t let me watch are numerous , especially football as they say it sends my stress levels through the roof.
Back to the the post ….

  3. Aswany is not alone in his perceptions, surely?
There must be many who think similarly right across the religious and social spectrum.

And I always thought a bra was there first and foremost to support the breasts?

If ever you are declared a ”National Treasure” maybe they could embalm you and stick you in Tussaud’s next to Nicolas Cage?.

  4. In the book description: In other words, fanatics have perverted the original teachings of Islam. I would substitute “Christianity” for Islam … although Islamic teachings are none the better.

The thing that deeply disturbs me (perhaps because I’m a woman) are the restrictions put on females simply because their body (or parts thereof) stimulate the sex organs of the male. Good Gawd! There are ways to overcome this driving need … even in Islam!

I suppose my attitude is directly related to living in a free country but it boggles my mind that WOMEN must become walking sheets just so a man can keep his wiggly-worm under control.

  5. There is a horrible irony in the behaviour of such extremist zealots when it comes to sexual education and behaviour, in that they truly don’t realise the misery and dysfunction they cause. And outside of the extremists, we as a society still have major hangups about how children and teenagers should act, dress, feel. Normal. Be normal or be an oddity, and the scope of this ‘normality’ is woefully small. Hence, as society drags itself painfully towards some possible kind of recognized civilized state, the terrible time Trans folks, and any other body who doesn’t fit into specified boxes are having. And I have read Trans people saying they sometimes feel pushed to ‘be’ Trans and therefore ‘be’ a woman or a man strictly, when human development is rarely a straight line. The pain and misery that could be saved, the actual LIVES that could be saved across the board and the world if parents (and other family members), simply allowed their child to ‘be’ who they are, and discover what they wish to called later down the road, with care and guidnace, yes, but not fear wearing blinkers. There seems to be a terrible horror that this way of thinking will eradicate ‘true’ men and women, and that it is also forcing children to be ‘un-natural’. When it is simply giving them a choice, so quite the opposite.

I blame the Victorians for a great deal in the UK (let alone the rest of the world) — disturbed, uptight set of souls if ever there were such a thing.

Steampunk is brilliant of course. Hahahahaha.

    This is the song I set to your fine and superbly constructed post Professor, the film it is from, ‘Harold and Maude’ is one of the finest ever made, and fits perfectly with the theme we discuss – a black and beautiful comedy. There is perhaps some irony too in the fact that the song’s writer and performer became a muslim a few years on from this and gave up music entirely ;

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
‘Cause there’s a million things to be
    You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
‘Cause there’s a million ways to go
    You know that there are

You can do what you want
    The opportunity’s on
And if you can find a new way
    You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
    you see ah ah ah
    its easy ah ah ah
    You only need to know

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
‘Cause there’s a million ways to go
    You know that there are

And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
‘Cause there’s a million things to do
    You know that there are

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
‘Cause there’s a million things to be
    You know that there are
    You know that there are
