Public Safety?

How would you describe and define (altruistic) “public safety”?

Why would an advanced, civil society and nation promote and/or care about “public safety”?

What are all the benefits of widespread (altruistic) “public safety”? What are the negatives of “public safety,” if any?

What are some historical BAD examples of no public safety? What are some stellar examples of incredibly caring public safety?

Let’s really dive into the detailed concepts of “public safety.” Share your thoughts, ideas, and personal principles. I would love to know your thoughts and behavior about public safety.

  1. Surely the most important would be the fair unbiased and non-corruptible judicial departments for all citizens equally, followed by the tax, military and immigration etc.

    • sklyjd, I think all of those components are essential, if not critical, to overall public safety. They are a great starting point for sure.

Can you share any examples of a generally healthy, thriving public safety system which promotes a high standard of living for the greatest good? Can you think of bad examples? 🤔🙂

      • Yes I can Prof, a good example, the unions in NZ where I was employed during the later years of my working life were by law instrumental in workplace health and safety decisions. This I observed as preventing employers from cutting corners in safety related aspects of their businesses.

A good and bad example, booze bans were instigated mostly by elder aboriginals for their communities have been modified or overturned. After 15 years a ban was overturned in Alice Springs and crime and family violence had increased. The alcohol ban has now been re-established but crime rates are still high.
