Here comes the historian in me so watch out! You have been warned. ๐
I have a deep indignation for modern Originalists. That is, Constitutional Originalists. Thomas Jefferson once said:
“The question Whether one generation of men has a right to bind another, seems never to have been started either on this or our side of the waterโฆ (But) between society and society, or generation and generation there is no municipal obligation, no umpire but the law of nature. We seem not to have perceived that, by the law of nature, one generation is to another as one independent nation to anotherโฆ
On similar ground it may be proved that no society can make a perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law. The earth belongs always to the living generationโฆEvery constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19. years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force and not of right.”
— Thomas Jefferson, Letter to James Madison, 1789
And a renown early 19th-century French aristocrat, diplomat, sociologist, political scientist, political philosopher, and historian named Alexis de Tocqueville, who had influence upon our Founding Fathers, wrote:
“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”
— Alexis de Tocqueville, “Democracy in america,”1835
How, in any possible way, does Tocqueville misunderstand the founding of our 18th-century infant country and its Constitutional precepts and foundations? Does his point-of-view solicit any form of stagnation or Originalism? Those are rhetorical questions; of course he firmly grasps what America’s ongoing “experiment” was and is supposed to be each decade. It was absolutely designed to be a work in progress. It was never meant to be a final “perfect” nation, at any time, where no further repairs, fixes, or amendments are no longer required. No, a real democracy must evolve with the times. Period.
At least half of Americans, that’s a minimum of 170.5-million Americans, do not understand what democracy is or what it looks like. They’d rather be lazy and automatons, being told what to do and what to believe. This is colossally disturbing! I can’t emphasize this enough. Therefore, let me share this fantastic symposium on CSPAN that took place this past Nov. 2023. The panelists are SO spot-on about the naรฏve half of Americans today:
If you are unable to watch this great symposium in your country, try this link below:
https://www.c-span.org/video/?531605-3/2023-george-washington-symposium-founders
Yes, it is an hour and a half long, but believe me when I say this, it is so very worth the time! Do you really and truly know what an imperfect, but improving democracy looks like and how it is supposed to operate—that is, a “government of the people” operates “for the people, by the people…“?
Most, or too many Americans today, honestly do not know or certainly couldn’t explain democracy in detail, especially from a national standpoint. They most typically explain “democracy” from their own personal interests and individual and/or familial beliefs. But that narrow perspective is wrong. It does not reflect what our six Core Founding Fathers designed, drafted, and then ratified into law throughout our Charters of Freedom.

This present condition in American culture begs several questions.
Why and how has this happened after only a 248-year “experiment”? Are we teaching our tech-savvy, tech-obsessed youth the core fundamentals of a Constitutional democracy? Why are so few of our youth and young adults have ambitions to be public servants via government, military personnel, or election officials? What are the causes of this void in America’s youth? Is it economic opportunities and greater wealth in and from the private sectors? If so, how does that change in the 21st-century? What are the current American values and/or what should they be?
I’m curious to read your feedback and comments to these questions below.

I have no time to watch the video at present.
But when a nation worships money the way the USA worships money you cannot have true responsible growing democracy. Those with money are busy trying to keep things the way they are, while those without money are too busy trying to get it. The rules fall by the wayside.
The USA has not yet gone through a socialism phase, and in the modern world this is necessary to continued growth. Capitalism can only go so far before before it petrifies a society. And once petrification sets it, if becomes harder and harder to change it!
I wish our southern neighbors well, but I do not see a way out for you without huge changes. And having half your population fighting against change is not a good place to start!

I cannot argue in any serious manner against your assessment of the current American political landscape rawgod. Let me put that out there first.
So just to add to what you’ve stated:
Originalists are indeed the “status quo” who don’t want our government & laws to change with the times. This is undeniable. They’d rather stay in the Bronze Age of their religious beliefs or in the 18th-century of our Constitution’s drafting.
Yes! I often say that hyper-capitalism is literally self-cannibalism. Why? Because it only benefits the self-righteous, the super greedy, and the egotistical megalomaniacs—like tRump and his cult the MAGAts—who absolutely will eliminate the inferior or the non-white, non-educated, non-progressive humans. Does any of that sound eerily familiar to fascism and Nazism with Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels and Arian Supremacy?

And maybe the women too will be part of the elimination. At least those who need to abort in order to live!

OMG Nan!!! I could not agree MORE with you Madame!!!
Lately I have been in this hardcore phase of Pro-Feminine and equality in all aspects of life & government for women, and I promote this in my own way across my social-media and music platforms via this song/video. It is SO hardcore WOMAN!!! Listen closely to her lyrics…

I will have to accept your opinion on the video as my hearing condition does not allow videos without CC (or at least VERY concise speaking).

Heh-heh. Actually, I do wear hearing aids and although they offer wonderful assistance MOST of the time, they definitely have their drawbacks. And “listening” to videos falls into that category. As an addendum, I probably wouldn’t have watched this video anyway as her antics were, to me, very distracting.

Too much like that. I have no use for either.

I believe that the populist movement and use of the internet by foreign actors to negatively influence the American people are partly responsible. When people are consuming propaganda 24/7 via their smartphones, the sense of reality is lost. Some people donโt read good books or official news articles anymore. They are learning through Facebook, Twitter/X, and blogs pretending to be official news platforms.

IMO, a great summation of why things are the way they are in the political world.

That is certainly true E. Ortiz, it is indeed a big part of the problem. The vast majority of Americans/Populists simply want their news, their information, their political views, their beliefs FED to them in pure silver spoons on gold platters. They don’t want to be bothered with independent, critical-analytical thinking, fact-checking, much less the time-consuming legwork/homework required to dig up ALL the relevant facts & data. "Just give it to me in 5-7 minutes or less” is what they demand today. IOW’s, you pull and move my puppet-strings for me.
In total agreement with you Sir. ๐

Thank you kindly Edward. Hope you are able to pop-in once or twice a month(?)—because that is about the only amount of free-time I have now to post, given my Mom’s severe Stage 7 Dementia/Early-Alzheimer’s and her 14-18 hours per day supervision. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Plus, she now has regular visits 3-4 times a week by her hospice nurse, hospice aid, and social-worker. I’m a busy, busy man/son. ๐
