“If we’ve been bamboozled long enough,
we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle.
We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth.
The bamboozle has captured us.
It’s simply too painful to acknowledge,
even to ourselves,
that we’ve been taken.”
— Carl Sagan
As some of my followers and readers might remember, I have always had a fascination with Sasquatch, or Bigfoot as it and the many “sightings” over the decades have been referred in reports, eyewitness interviews, film, and documentaries. I became curious and entertained when Bigfoot hunters, investigators, anthropologists, and primatologists began linking the creatures to possibly the large build Gigantopithecus and less possible the Paranthropus robustus known to be extinct primates. However, surrounding all the hype, media coverage, and sales profits accumulated since the 1970’s, there is one major problem that persists with the Bigfoot stories: there is a severe lack of hard, sufficient corroborating evidence such as their bones.

A new tell-all documentary entitled Capturing Bigfoot was released October 20, 2026. The film reexamines the authenticity of the Patterson-Gimlin footage shot near the Klamath River in Del Norte County California in 1967. It reveals the explosive truth about Roger Patterson, Robert Gimlin, Albert DeAtley, Bob Heironimus, and Patricia Patterson wife of Roger and mother to son Clint Patterson and everything they suffered over sixty-years.
The Bigfoot phenomenon has taken on a cryptic life of its own since the 1950’s. Despite the many eyewitness testimonies, blurry photos or unclear films, and the never-ending casts of footprints, handprints, and memorabilia, conclusive physical evidence of the creature itself remains very elusive. Replica casts and many other Bigfoot items may now be purchased online, but the fact that these were obtained during the heyday of the Bigfoot legends and myth and turned them into important historical artifacts regardless of their unverified authenticity keeps the myth alive. So why do the legends of Sasquatch and all its other names around the world still grip diehard belief from their human enthusiasts? The traditional legends of ostensibly “historical Bigfoot events” are claimed to be true on the surface, but the underlying reality or real motivation behind it is quite different. How far will people go to protect their public image and integrity for a secret myth, or worse, for long-term wealth?

Not unlike the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot 59.5-second film and the recently revealed practice-run filmed by Patterson-Gimlin prior to the well-known final film, there are also two ancient texts or manuscripts from the 4th-century CE called the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus. They are both written in Hellenistic or Koine Greek, the most popular language of the Principate Roman Empire also known as the Pax Romana era. They are also the oldest known complete Greek New Testaments, not fragments or incomplete scattered broken pieces of just one Epistle or Gospel. Their dating is of monumental importance.
The Codex Vaticanus was recorded somewhere between c. 300–350 CE, about 292-years AFTER the execution of Jesus/Yeshua. The Codex Sinaiticus was authored somewhere between c. 325–360 CE, about 307-years AFTER the execution of Jesus/Yeshua. What makes the dates of these two codices and their authorship so important?
“There are several interesting facts concerning the Codex Vaticanus and especially concerning the distortions that has been made in this script over the centuries. For instance, the Codex Vaticanus was revised in the 8th, 10th and 15th centuries thus it is not as it was originally. In fact the entire Codex Vaticanus manuscript has been manipulated; every letter has been run over with a pen and there are some sentences, clauses and even verses that have been omitted.”
— Vatican.com, May 18, 2018

With regard to the date of the Codex Sinaiticus it too is of critical importance:
“Codex Sinaiticus is one of the most important books in the world. Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of outstanding importance for the history of the Bible…”
— CodexSinaiticus.org, accessed Oct. 26, 2026
Again, these are the only two complete, oldest Christian Bibles in existence. That alone does indeed make them of colossal importance! They are the closest known recorded copies of the four Gospels in the Koine-Greek New Testament and on the narrative of Jesus’/Yeshua’s life prior to and up to his execution in c. 30–34 CE. What makes these two codices even more important is what they do not contain. And what makes this so paramount is the chronological order of the Greek New Testament. How the various Gospels and Epistles were ordered by the earliest Greco-Roman Church Fathers implicitly speaks volumes about influential events and circumstances onto and surrounding the infant Early Church between 40 CE to 400 CE and after.
Most all biblical scholars agree that the Gospel of Mark was the first and therefore oldest gospel written. Therefore, by default Mark carries immense importance toward more authentic, verifiable, and more reliable truths/facts of what it narrates. However, peculiar enough, both the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus stop at Mark 16:8. There is nothing more after chapter sixteen verse eight:
“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’” 8 They went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.” — Mark 16:1-8 (NASB1995)
Why do the two oldest manuscript copies of Mark not include any specific details of Jesus/Yeshua resurrected and traveling around the area making appearances to Mary Magdalene then to his disciples? Was it because Jesus/Yeshua never rose from the dead? Why leave that significant (theological) portion out? Why was it added decades later? What caused the theological addition, not in the original copy, to be amended and expanded? What was happening around and to the Early Christian Church at that time?
These are very legitimate, intelligent, and reasonable questions to ask. Just like modern homicide detectives and forensic investigators at a crime scene must do quickly to gain the most accurate, reliable testimonies from witnesses and leftover remaining evidence on the scene, the more facts around the victim/victims, people, murderer/murderers, witnesses, events, actions, behaviors, etc., that can be collected. The more timely and meticulous the gathering the more accurate and reliable the homicide case and its evidence surrounding the time of death, the weapon, and motive(s) can be proven in court in front of a judge and jury. The same techniques apply to the short-version of Mark before it is contaminated or too decayed or deteriorated.
At this point the obvious question becomes this, Why was the Gospel of Mark retrofitted much later with a resurrection and physical appearances to disciples and followers? Was the Gospel of Mark seen as insufficient for some reason? The answer was “yes.” It was quite insufficient. Critics of The Way Movement during the middle of the 1st-century CE in Judea, Samaria, Galilee, southern Syro-Phoenicea, Perea, and Decapolis were asking hard, undermining questions about authentic Jewish Messianism, as opposed to Greco-Roman Apotheosis, and the true nature of Jesus/Yeshua by comparison—none of what Saul/Paul was preaching/writing nor what the disciples were saying/writing was matching up doctrinally or theologically to Homeland Jewish Messianism and the Tanakh.

By 50–70 CE something had to be done by the Hellenistic/Greek Christian Church Fathers or heirs to The Way Movement was over; dead in the water, as Saul/Paul and the first Roman Church Fathers saw it. Thus began widespread church orthodoxy, the Roman way. And Romans had been organizing, standardizing experts for centuries.

The 1967 Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot footage was seen and believed by adamant Bigfoot enthusiasts/believers as the Holy Grail proof that Sasquatch/Bigfoot existed and lives today. The footage was always used as infallible truth by Bigfoot apologists for the simple reason that it had never been exhaustively refuted as fake, a hoax or a fraud. And for the most part this was true for the last sixty-years.
In Christendom the last 2,000+ years one of the core foundation or cornerstones of the Christian faith was the resurrection, appearances, and ascension into heaven. It has massive implications to the purpose, depravity, and redemption of humanity by God and the sacrifice of His one and only Son. By the 5th– and 8th-century CE the Greco-Roman Canonical Holy Bible was officially complete after many, many ecumenical councils. For new proponents (fathers, bishops) of a novel religious movement that had to keep a handle, a direct connection to the Hebrew prophecies of a Messiah(s)… they had to explain convincingly why their Kingly Messiah failed by Roman execution, and therefore did not fulfill the Hebrew expectations of a Kingdom of God on Earth; a very serious conundrum to Judeo-Christians and Gentiles across the Empire!
By comparison it only took Roger Patterson (camera-man), Robert Gimlin, Albert DeAtley (financier), and Bob Heironimus (wearing Bigfoot costume) two attempts to perfect the Bigfoot video-footage. Whereas for the Early Roman Catholic Church Fathers it took a minimum of seven attempts, but technically twenty-one (21) attempts over 800-years to canonize or perfect Christian history and theology. Think about that. Why did it take eight long centuries for the first and later Christian churches to sort out an apparent convoluted mess who was a strictly Jewish man, Jesus/Yeshua, and 1st-century CE Rabbi-reformer? The constant amending, inventing, redacting, and secrets are indicative of what people of any time period are energized by four of the seven deadly sins, Invidia (Envy or public image), Superbia (Pride), Gula (Gluttony) or obsession with opulence, and Avaritia (Greed and fraud).
If one closely examines Christian biblical apologetics in precise chronological order within the historical context of exactly what was happening in, around, and beyond Homeland Messianic Judaism of the 1st-century BCE to the 2nd-century CE, you will uncover many errors and incorrect Hebraisms. During the Late Second Temple Period and within the Principate Roman Empire, it is no stretch at all to surmise that the Hellenistic Romans hijacked and reinvented, revamped Jesus’/Yeshua’s The Way Movement into a more likable, familiar Greek Apotheosis. Roman Gentiles/Pagans throughout the Eastern Roman Empire, then the Western, could easily comprehend and embrace that sort of religion. Furthermore, it could grow much faster both in a societal way and economic way for the Empire.
There is one of many Christian apologetic institutions and organizations strongly dedicated to protecting and expanding the infallibility and veracity of the canonized Roman Greek Septuagint and Greek New Testament. One such organization is the Bible Archaeology Report. They state on their About page their Mission, their Goals, and their Presuppositions. This is similar to most Christian apologetic methods used. I want to highlight a few of their points for contention:
“Mission: Bible Archaeology Report is an apologetics ministry dedicated to highlighting archaeological discoveries that support the historical reliability of the Bible.
Goals: […]
2. To serve as a trusted resource for both the Church and the curious, offering credible archaeological and historical information that affirms and illuminates the Bible.
Presuppositions: […]
2. Archaeology itself neither “proves” or “disproves” the Bible. However, over the past 150 years hundreds of discoveries in the Holy Lands have demonstrated again and again that the Bible, when properly understood, is a historically accurate document.
3. A lack of evidence does not logically imply that something did not exist or occur. Archaeological evidence is almost always fragmentary and incomplete. Many biblical sites were destroyed by war, natural disasters, erosion, looting, and urbanization. Furthermore, only a fraction of these sites have been excavated and published. Thus, it ought not surprise us that many biblical details are uncorroborated by archaeology.
Their Mission statement presupposes the canonized Bible over 8-centuries is or has been proven to be historically reliable, which is a wholly false representation of the Bible.
Under their Goals #2 clearly shows their motive and more presuppositions. What they are actually stating without saying it is that they offer one perspective (out of many) of opinions to biasedly affirm their historical veracity of the Greek New Testament without actually doing it with opposing views and opinions. And who exactly are the “credible archaeologists“?
Under their Presuppositions the B.A.R. makes at least two giant leaps that suit their own motives. In #2 they claim what is likely an untouchable esoteric knowledge and understanding of their Koine Greek Bible that is not privy to non-believers or non-Christians, pagans or secularists. Yet, their superior esoteric advantage (usually via the Holy Spirit) means that when “properly understood” (see image below) automatically made their Bible “historically accurate” in their eyes and hearts. Then in #3 they (purposely?) offer only one side or one-half of argumentum ad ignorantiam, or argument from ignorance. Then the staunch Christian apologists carry this logic one step further to Argument from self-knowing, i.e. esoteric knowing. But Hitchen’s razor holds true as a sound rebuttal: What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. Hence, nothing has been gained as truth or fact by circular presuppositions. But many emotionally vulnerable people, young adolescents or teenagers, fall into these traps of false reasoning and Christian propaganda.

Also on the Bible Archaeology Report website on their page entitled, The Earliest New Testament Manuscripts they claim quite bombastically:
“All of the books of the New Testament were written within a lifetime of the death of Jesus of Nazareth. […]
To date we have over 5800 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, with an astounding 2.6 million pages of biblical text.1 While some of these manuscripts are small and fragmentary, the average size of a New Testament manuscript is 450 pages.2 Add to this the ancient manuscripts in Latin, Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, etc. which number in the tens of thousands,3 and you realize that there is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to New Testament manuscripts. No other ancient text can compare with the New Testament when it comes to the sheer volume of manuscripts, nor when we consider how close the earliest manuscripts are to the originals.“
The vast majority of biblical scholars, as seen in my above earlier illustration “Chronological Order” do NOT agree that books of the Greek New Testament are authored “within a lifetime” of Jesus’/Yeshua’s execution. If that were true then that would mean the average lifetime age of men in 1st-century Judea, Galilee, etc., would have to be in the 90–100 years of age! That is simply untrue given the time-period, diseases, wars, injuries, and other physical and health problems of the time. The average lifespan in 10–200 CE Palestine was only 30-35 years old, maybe infrequently 40–45 years old. These statistics are very reliable according to modern paleontology and anthropology. Biblical mythical ages and lifetimes were greatly exaggerated.
Finally, one aspect the B.A.R. website overlooked or purposely omitted are their various languages cited on the same page, “Latin, Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, etc.” yet none of the supposed 5,800 manuscripts are in Jesus’/Yeshua’s native tongues of (Mishnaic) Hebrew and Syro-Aramaic. Naturally the Dead Sea Scrolls (about 80%–90%) are scribed in Hebrew. If there are any “embarrassment of riches” with manuscripts it is the Dead Sea Scrolls that win hands down.
What is typically apparent from Christian Apologists is their fervor, their tenaciousness in protecting the holy sacredness and accuracy of their Greek Scriptures, the theology derived from it over a 700-year period, and its ecumenical canonization. They will go to remarkable lengths to protect their integrity of belief, faith, and public image over secrets, myths, and old traditions they’ve held much of, if not, all their life. They will keep doing this even in the face of a known provable facade, especially if that facade makes them a wealthy celebrity. How many “Christians™” do you know, that you see around mega-church parking lots that are equally the grand size of the main church auditorium or stadium-size chapel? I personally know about 40-60 people who attend, love and boast about their supersized congregation of weekly “blessings.” The similarities of those churches and Faith-followers versus Sasquatch-Bigfoot diehard enthusiasts are uncanny, but not a surprise. It is called Avaritia, or greed on steroids.
Slight Spoiler Alert
Norm Johnson worked at Boeing as a film-editor and producer then was promoted to Film Department Manager. Norm was very qualified to produce and edit film. His brother, Teresa Brook’s uncle, said Dave Johnson “was always a swindler trying everything to make a fast buck.” Dave was the epitome of a Snake Oil salesman. “When together Norm and Dave always got into some sort of trouble,” Teresa explained. When Dave Johnson and his brother Norm Johnson arrived in Yakima, Washington, they soon met with Roger Patterson. What everyone in the hoax DID NOT know was that the rehearsal footage done a year earlier (above) was still preserved in great condition, but locked up in a safe for over 50-years. If it had ever gotten out and seen by the public Albert DeAtley, Roger Patterson, and Robert Gimlin would lose their livelihoods and money-making Bigfoot scam. According to the wife Patty Patterson, DeAtley even threatened her multiple times as well as everyone involved in the fraudulent scam that he would ruin their lives and hurt them if they blew the whistle. DeAtley was already making boat-loads of money off the Bigfoot film and he and his wife were finishing their new multi-million dollar palatial home at 5910 Scenic Dr., Yakima, WA, 98908, which has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, 2 swimming pools and other luxurious amenities of a 10,355 sq. foot home. It is currently valued at $3.7-million according to Zillow.com.
In the 2026 documentary Capturing Bigfoot it draws to an end that the famous 1967 Patterson-Gimlin footage was a complete hoax. All the participants—Patterson, Gimlin, DeAtley, Heironimus and wife Patty Patterson—admitted that when the footage of the rehearsal of a to-be Bigfoot sighting went public, then the cat was out of the bag, the genie was out of the bottle and there was no possible way to put the cat or genie back into the bag/bottle. The money-making scam was up, dead. Yet despite this outcome, there are still Bigfoot-believers that will not and cannot accept that their once sacred, holy infallible film-footage had been debunked and was a hoax by the actual participants/actors. These loyal Bigfoot-followers refused to abandon their (false) beliefs and couldn’t accept that they were duped. They continue to live their lives in a deluded fantasy. They protect themselves and their integrity at all costs despite being, as Carl Sagan said, bamboozled for near 60-years or more.
I ask two questions, 1) Do Sasquatch-Bigfoot followers sound exactly like Christian Faith-followers? I think so, because they have abandoned their objectivity and intelligence to critique, to examine, and dissect their willfully naïve “faith” in Jesus/Yeshua. Why? Four of the Seven Deadly Sins. And 2) Why does the oldest preserved copy of the first written Gospel, Mark (70 CE), leave out or not have the resurrection story or the following appearances and events? Why was it added years or decades later?
Conclusion: There is truly nothing a hardcore believer won’t do to keep a secret and protect their integrity and wealth.

The Bigfoot scam is similar to the Paluxy Dinosaur trail where fossilized dino prints were discovered alongside ‘human’ footprints, thus vindicating claims humans and dinosaurs co-existed and by extension the earth is ‘Young’.
As I am sure you know, Dwain, this too was shown to be a hoax several years ago after the perpetrators admitted the fact.
And yet, just last week I came across a piece written last year listing 10 points of supposed verified facts that a young earth was a scientifically proven reality. These facts(sic) included the Dino + human footprints of the Paluxy river. It is well-nigh impossible to reason with anyone whose religious beliefs take precedence over everything else.
An interesting aside, Nina Livesey considers the gospels were written later (2nd century?) and before Paul’s letters then everything was retrofitted.

Yep, if there is some high degree of celebrity status and lots of money to be had… many humans cannot resist those four Deadly Sins can they? They justify it by saying things like… “There’s a sucker around every corner. Being gullible is not MY fault nor am I their protector from scams and fraudsters.”
But then there are laws that protect the innocent and gullible from people very happy to steal as much as possible from them.

Pee Ess. While I do not regard myself as a Star Wars affeciando I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it turned out that George Lucas based Chebacca on some sort of Bigfoot character!

Ooooo! I had never thought of that possibility. 🤔 It’s probably likely Ark.
Isn’t it funny how humanity’s super-imaginative brains can eventually makes things become reality, in some cases only in their own heads? 😉

Azza long time consumer of the scifi/sword & sorcery/speculative fiction genre,I have read much of Robert A. Heinlein’s work and he’s written about organized religion –A LOT. If you haven’t read his seminal novel Stranger In A Strange Land, it is a how-to explainer of successfully creating this phenomenon. One of the more surprising points — initially, people EXPECT to pay for “truth” and won’t accept it for free. Tithing is a necessary part of it.
My personal experience with the Southron Baptist church is prolly similar in all xtian denominations — too many at the top DO NOT TRY TO WALK THE TALK. IMO, this displays that spirituality or “saving souls” don’t enter into it, the primary focus is power and influence. Same that was true of Rodrigo Borja 530 years ago, is true of our current prezzy serving under the auspices evanjellycals today.

Ooooo, yes Kamchak! I own the book Stranger In A Strange Land by Heinlein. And you are right on, it is a great example of creating a phenomenon or cult. 😉
And yes, sadly and shamefully we do have a political cult movement in the USA now. It’s called MAGA and Christian Nationalism. Ugh. 🤦

No time to read the whole post yet, but I will remember aloud stories from my youth, dated sometime in the 50s, but rehashed from previous years. A picture was splashed across the front page of the Winnipeg Free Press. MANIPOGO REAPPEARS or something like that. Manipogo was believed to be a prehistoric sea creature who appeared every do often in either Lake Winnipeg or Lake Manitoba, supposedly connected by some large underground river. The photo was slightly grainy, but it certainly looked like what we then called a Brontosaurus neck and head held above the surface of the water. That photo inspired the paper to publish old photos of Okapogo (Lake Okanogan in BC) and, of course, Nessie, Scotland’s pride. So it is not just Bigfoot and Sasquatch visible in fleeting glimpses, but sea monsters too. Likely there are other “throwbacks” around that I have never heard of, but no sweat. The likelihood of any of them being real is 0.0000000001 to 0.
