Reasons America Has Lost Its Way

For most of my adult life I have had great respect and adoration for America’s elite historians. Some of the first that come to mind are Doris Kearns Goodwin, John Meacham, Annette Gordon-Reed, Douglas Bradburn, David McCullough, and several others. I follow most all of them and have read many of their published books. Sometimes another historian enters the limelight of American political history and/or journalism. One such historical journalist was recently a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His name? John Dickerson, a frequent guest on Colbert’s shows.

The meaning of Separation of Powers as our Core Founding Fathers intended in the late 18th-century

But sadly, this original design by our Founding Fathers (above image) no longer exists today. Try hard to find its current virtues, the applications, the execution and equal humble moderation. You won’t find it under this administration. They could care less about it.

Dickerson summed up superbly on the Colbert late show aired February 25, 2026, with exactly why the cogs and wheels of our federal government today are falling off, broken, and disintegrating… or “obliterated” to use an overkill abused White House word of late. And the prime example, the prime felon and demolisher—no pun intended on the East Wing of the White House—was made bare and obvious with the supposed State of the Union Lies and Address delivered February 24, 2026, to the American public. I highly recommend watching John Dickerson’s interview, answers, and explanations of just how monumentally President tRump and his MAGA cult followers are comprehensively missing the Venezuelan and American boat, so to speak:

If any of you cannot watch the interview on YouTube because of “location restrictions,” then try this option with some transcript reading:

  1. “We” (Dickerson, et al) can find all the fault we want in Trump’s SOU speech … but the MAGA-ites are convinced he is their savior against all those “nasty” Democrats who spend “all their time” defending trans-folks (!).

IOW, of COURSE Trump lies and distorts, but having a population free from the black, tan, and gay folks is far more important than honoring a document written in the far-off past (1787).

(Besides, that black guy that lives next door yells at my dog.)

    • I hear ya Nan. You are correct in all of that.

Btw, I went at 7:20am today to vote at my polling station for the Democrat candidates and many Propositions for my county and 417th precinct. What I thought was a bit peculiar when I walked in was the fact that they had half of the church gymnasium of Republican voters to the right (ironic), and the other half of Democrat voters to the left.

The election volunteers to the Right automatically greeted me, for some weird reason, and as I read the signs pointing the direction I required to go in… I turned immediately left and never said a word to the Right side of the gymnasium talking to me—I was on a quick mission to vote electronically, how I wanted. I surprised the volunteer lady helping me that I wanted electronic voting. I was done in 5-mins and I felt 120% reassured that my electronic votes would not be corrupted, fraudulent, or lost… as the Far Right Reds here falsely claim every 2–4 years. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ IOW’s Nan, it seems most all voters here in Central Texas think there’s widespread voter fraud that would somehow miraculously CHANGE an outcome.

Of course that has never been proven in centuries.

      • That’s a helluva way to find out whom you need to hate. Has voting always been disjointed like that? I thought America used secret ballots! Nothing secret about how you voted. Expect a knock on the door when ICE gets to your part of Texas

        • πŸ˜„ But you know rawgod, you are not that far-fetched about agents knocking on my door, or even busting threw with the battering-hammer. I mean, seriously… has this nation’s cult leadership ever stopped shocking us and the world since January 20, 2025? πŸ€”

          • He shocked me in 2016, and he shocked me again in 2024. But by then the votes were fixed as he promised he would do on Jan. 19, 2021. He said he will be back, and he would not make the same mistake in 2028.
Nothing he does surprises me anymore. It’s all just a matter of when. I doubt a presidential election will be on the ballot in 2028.

    • Yes Edward, unless (big emphasis on unless) he and his extremist MAGA-its change the Constitution to allow him to serve like FDR or like our Supreme Court Justices… a/his lifetime.

I’ve always been afraid that with complete domination (majority control?) of every Branch of our federal government that he and his cult-following MAGA-its would amend or rewrite the 22nd Amendment Sections 1 and 2 of the Constitution. Surprisingly they didn’t do it (yet) before this coming Oct/Nov 2026 general elections. Thank all goodness and the gods/goddesses that they haven’t, BUT… that hinges too on how well Democrats do and how many Americans actually go vote them in!!! We could easily allow him and the MAGAT-its more time to do it. 😬😳

Given past turnout rates—that allowed the idiot moron back into the White House a second time—I am still quite worried.

      • What you said about voting is absolutely critical. The millions of people who didn’t vote in 2024 compared to 2020 are a real problem. People have to vote if we want to change the craziness that’s going on.
