Nothing else needs saying, except this is just one colossal iceberg off the coast of Ilulissat, Greenland, among hundreds of others breaking off or calving at alarming rates over the last 10-20 years. This particular iceberg moved into Disko Bay, Greenland, after fracturing, melting and then became small enough to literally flip, doing a somersault and creating massive waves as it broke apart due to Climate Change.

Greenland, the world’s largest island, is also covered in one of the earth’s two ice sheets. The other cloaks Antarctica. Greenland’s encompasses around 80 percent of the nation’s land mass, spanning more than 650,000 square miles. But it’s also melting at an accelerating rate due to climate change, losing an annual average of 261 gigatonnes—one gigatonne is equivalent to 2.2 trillion pounds—contributing to rising sea levels that impact the rest of the world. And Greenland’s massive icebergs are a reminder of this exceptional scale. Once the ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland erode past a specific amount of square miles, a point the Earth is reaching rapidly—unless the remaining superpower nations like the United States do more, A LOT MORE—the planet can no longer be saved. Most life as we know it, such as humans and most animals on land and in the seas, will perish. Us, we, and they will indeed go extinct. Guaranteed.

When 195 countries signed the Paris Agreement in 2016, the Copernicus Climate Change Service estimated that Earth would reach the 1.5 degrees threshold by 2042. But now, the European organization’s global temperature trend monitor predicts that Earth will hit 1.5 degrees Celsius in warming by 2029—just three years from now. No one country is doing enough, period. But for 2026 what 10 nations are doing the most to slow Climate Change?

  1. Denmark — Overall score: 80.52
  2. United Kingdom — Overall score: 70.8
  3. Morocco — Overall score: 70.75
  4. Chile — Overall score: 70.63
  5. Luxembourg — Overall score: 70.45
  6. Lithuania — Overall score: 70.3
  7. Netherlands — Overall score: 67.27
  8. Norway — Overall score: 66.83
  9. Portugal — Overall score: 66.05
  10. Sweden — Overall score: 64.91

Civilization must, I repeat MUST get off and stop burning fossil fuels and other gases and minerals causing Global Warming. It is so much worse than first predicted 40-60 years ago! What are you doing about it at home? What are you doing about Climate Change in your neighborhood, community, town, city, or state? What are you making your elected government officials address, and take action, not just hear their repeated lip-service?

Here’s the outlook, it’s bleak, very bleak if we continue with business-as-usual:

Not only will you, your spouse or partner suffer greatly from every imaginable disaster possible, severe food shortages, empty grocery stores, increased extreme temperatures, increased draughts more prolonged, increased flooding, more 1,000-year and 100-year Category 4 and 5 (and 6?) storms, hurricanes, typhoons, and tornadoes… but your own children, nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings, parents(?), and best friends, followed by your grandchildren and all of their relatives, will begin to die off from a wide variety of health issues, disease, malnutrition, and other problems yet unknown!

Doing nothing or very, very little, and too slowly has just ONE outcome for us all. It isn’t rocket science.

  1. So long as the current administration remains in control, any efforts towards this issue on the part of individual citizens is going to have minimal effect. It HAS to start with the powers-that-be putting some sort of control on the guilty industries. And regrettably, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

  3. The current estimate of global sea level rise by 2100 is a very conservative 1-6.25 feet. Although that would be bad enough, my research indicates that the actual figure will be much higher. Climate change has already been measured as accelerating much faster than the scientific community had forecast.

  4. Professor, it looks like most of our ecosystems and their genetic and behavioral diversity will be lost (along with human civilization). There appears to be no stopping this. Not totally bleak however: Enclaves will persist and leave us with hope for a future biosphere of recovered diversity composed of new species and niches. A forthcoming volume in my series exploring the issues provides a more detailed discussion of the future we can expect. The first draft is entering the editing process today.

  6. Human understanding is often thought to better be late than never, but this one cannot be more critical that we are on time to prevent “never” because that is our own demise.

  7. Too many people are too used to using machines, especially carbon-emitting machines like planes and gas-powered automobiles. Every time the Space-X rocket gets launched the carbon production gets a huge hit. Most people do not get that they are contributing to Climate Change, it’s always someone else’s fault, not theirs.

    We put solar panels on our house a while back, but our Conservative provincial government wants to bury us in coal dust, not to mention they have upped the production caps on oil-mining companies. It was when we got the solar panels we found out that there are laws affecting how much solar energy can be produced in one day, and preventing citizens from storing energy in batteries. All the energy we are producing is being put into the power grid which is key to producing oil and coal. We cannot win for losing. Government officials just want the money tied to carbon-producing projects, not caring one whit about what they are doing to the people and the land.

    According to them, climate change is a hoax. It will be too late when they wake up to the reality of what they are doing today.

    • Yes rawgod, as long as wealth, profits, gold, money is the Almighty God of most everyone on the planet, especially in the developed 1st-world countries and some of the 2nd-world economies… it is unlikely significant change and deterrents will happen. As I remember Matt Damon saying in the exceptional 2014 film Interstellar… Dr. Mann said something to the effect that ‘out of all the expeditionary spaceships Earth sent out, surely someone somewhere survived?‘

      • Unfortunately, gentlemen, the only way to remove money as the number one reason for living, we would have to devalue it, or get rid of it altogether. Seeing as neither of those options are in the foreseeable future, humanity can only lose. But as long as life survives on this planet, Mother Nature (evolution) will try again. Hopefully She gives our replacements no thumbs.

        • 😂 Agreed rawgod! Totally agree Sir.

          I tell you this, the few resilient, super-intelligent species that WILL survive on this planet will be those animals/insects and deep sea creatures that truly understand and live Eusociality and are superb “teamsters,” so to speak, e.g. ants, certain bees, evolved cells/organisms on land and in sea, and highly intelligent sea creatures that can go deep to protect themselves, only coming to the surface when necessary (and quick) to breathe.

          But the less intelligent species such as Homo sapiens will in all likelihood exterminate themselves. 😄 Why? Because we cannot seem to learn the supreme value of Eusociality like the insects have done for millions of years. Period.

  8. Sorry I’m late PT. (It terms of total posts like months late actually).

    The current problem which aids the cause of the International Money Makers is two-fold:

    1. Because of the Right-Wing political movements working on the distrust amongst populations of current governments (while not thinking what these Rightest movements will do in power), the Environment has become an issue which is a political identifier. Thus Environmentalism is now ‘woke’, is now ‘leftie’, is now ‘liberal’, is now LGBTA+ (go figure). In short it is ‘weak and weedy’, whereas tough folk, burn woods, oil and coal and will no doubt shake fist, shoot guns at storms and say all fire are started by environmental extremists etc, etc, etc, etc,

    2. Now this is the one that really annoys them, and gets the yelps of ‘Yoooo’re gasssss-ly-ting, meeeeeeee’ as a reaction. Fear. Deep down where instinct meets the sub-conscious. The niggling realisation that all these predictions might well be correct and that the comfortable life could be swept away. Aside from the uncomfortable heat and the chilling winters, and the floods and the howling winds, there might be rationing, there might be shortages, when you turn your tap on there might not be water all the time. And you might not be able to drive your car all the time. Your penultimate paragraph underlines that. And fear of an unavoidable, something you have no personal control over. For a lot of folk that is not something they want to consider, they would rather deny it will happen, they will thinking of all sorts of excuses and willingly gobble up what others tell them. A lot are scared.

    3. And let us not forget the opportunist snake oil merchants who make money with their YouTube, Website, Paperback/Kindle powered rants. Willing adherents relieved to be told Environmental issues are scams, and pay good coin to be told.

    What is tragically comical is that somehow they have convinced themselves that there is lots of money behind the Environmental movement issues, whereas the other side is filled with altruistic, noble, rebels like say….
    Donald Trump.

    • No need to apologize Roger. Everything you’ve stated is correct, sad to say. 😒 I truly loathe, despise being called an American right now, much less an 8th-generation Texan. It is so freakin’ embarrassing.

      I’ve often told good friends, “Why is Lady Liberty still standing? This country has removed itself SO FAR from what she symbolizes and states (on her plaque), that we are now big-time hypocrites!”

      And I hate, hate, HATE being a god dayum American HYPOCRITE!!! 😡
